An authentic site of a significant and tragic WWII battle in Prague. Here, in the crypt of an Orthodox church, 7 Czechoslovak paratroopers found their hiding spot after participating in Operation Anthropoid - whereby Reinhard Heydrich, a high-rank Nazi official, was assassinated.
The members of the Czech Orthodox church kept them hidden here for as long as 20 days, but afterwards their hiding place was disclosed by a traitor. On 18th of June 1942, the church was surrounded by 750 German soldiers who fought the paratroopers for seven hours. The paratroopers fought until they nearly ran out of ammunition, and used their last bullets to shoot themselves.
