CZECH MUSEUM OF MUSIC

Slightly off the main tourist track, this lovely museum in Malá Strana invites you to look at the development of music – both in the Czech Republic and beyond. The museum building is a recently renovated 17th-century church, which harmoniously combines the features of early Baroque style with contemporary design.

A must-see especially for music lovers, the exhibition consists of the permanent and temporary sections. The former is called Man-Instrument-Music and mostly presents vintage musical instruments from the National Museum abundant collections. Classified according to their category (key, string, wind, etc.), the displayed items feature such grand highlights as a piano once played by Mozart himself and some instruments that you may actually see for the first time!

However, what is most exciting is the interactive part: you can play some of the instruments, including a mini-organ and a harp, and hear the sound of other instruments by putting on special headphones. Besides you can listen to vinyl recordings – “like your grandma did” - and have fun with a musical staircase that gets activated with laser beams as you step on it.
