The Story of Prague Castle is a permanent exhibition that opened in April 2004. It is dedicated to the millennia-old history of this unique castle complex, where the Czech national history was made. You will find it under the Gothic vaults beneath the Old Royal Palace – a maze of beautiful rooms featuring Prague Castle collection of relics.
Covering the period from Bohemia earliest days until modernity, the display consists of 2 main sections. The first one gives a chronological account of outstanding Czech rulers, key events in history, as well as the development of the castle itself. In the second part you can learn more about some inspiring historical topics, such as the Story of the Burial and the Story of the Feasting, which are related to Prague Castle.
You can see here models of the Castle in different ages, fascinating historical costumes, a 17th-century Bible, pottery, coins, stone engravings and an outstanding collection of armour. Among the most compelling exhibits are the Bohemian royal jewels, including the the gold crown of St. Wenceslas made for Charles IV, as well as the treasures of St. Vitus Cathedral.
Besides, you can learn plenty of interesting facts about people whose life was connected with Prague Castle – not only rulers and aristocracy, but also artists, architects, scholars and even common people such as tradesmen and servants.
