Near Old Town Square stands Monastery of St. James – a place that has special connection with Czechia’s most important rulers. Its foundation stone was laid in 1232 by King Wenceslaus I and John of Luxembourg (father of the illustrious Charles IV) celebrated both of his weddings here.
Having stayed closed for the public for many years, the space has re-opened in 2025 and while much of the complex has undergone several reconstructions, the spirit of the early days feels almost untouched. From medieval to neo-Renaissance: the newly opened gallery Art Palace Prague invites you to enjoy contemporary art exhibitions in a fabulous setting. Located in the historic Živnostenská banka building (dating back to 1621), this cultural space features breathtaking decoration created by prominent Czech artists.
